Alhambra & Granada

Only a couple of hours away is the truly magnificent city of Granada. With its vibrant nightlife, many restaurants, tapas bars and cafes and endless cultural events this historic city will keep any traveller more than entertained.

Perhaps the most famous of its attractions is the Alhambra, situated on the hilltop overlooking the city.  This UNESCO world heritage site sees thousands of visitors daily and certain parts are limited to the numbers per day it can accommodate therefore it is essential to book in advance.  Probably the best way to fully appreciate the entire experience and take most of the queuing out of the day is to book with one of the many tours companies.  This can be done in advance online and many companies offer minibus collections from most hotels in the city. Steeped in history the Alhambra Palace has fascinating architecture, tranquil gardens and offers many hours of truly awe inspiring sights.

Out with the Alhambra there are many other fascinating architectural sights, one to be recommended is the Cathedral and Royal Chapel in the centre of the city.  Its stunning chancel and splendid dome are some of Spain's finest.  There are also some beautiful gardens and walks throughout the city, the Frederico Garcia Lorca Park, the lanes and narrow streets of the Albayzin district or a relaxing stroll by the River Darro to mention a few.

As night falls the best thing to do is seek out one of the many bars Granada is famous for, order something local and people watch.
